IT Specialist I
FARMERS ELECTRIC is currently seeking a candidate for an IT SPECIALIST I.
This is an entry level position to assist the IT Manager in ensuring the stability and integrity of the organization’s IT assets, providing IT support for software, hardware, and network issues, and support the IT Manager in keeping all critical IT assets protected and operational daily. This includes assisting in planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, systems, software, telephony equipment, and communication links. Under the direction of the IT Manager, will operate both under supervision and independently, and as a part of a team, to ensure that software, hardware, network, and IT/OT related components are functioning properly and protected from cyber-attacks. Assist in working with existing security systems and/or help develop new security systems to analyze and address current system vulnerabilities.
• Network administration of all workstations, VMs, and Windows/Linux physical and virtual servers. This includes but is not limited to the setup of new user accounts and permission settings for new and current users, computer replacements and upgrades, software installations and upgrades, and server upgrades and installations as needed or assigned.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot user problems and computer networks to ensure daily operations and that network access is available to end users.
• Assist in developing effective security strategies for software systems, networks, and hardware.
• Assist in researching and implementing the best ways to secure company-wide IT infrastructure.
• Assist in monitoring for and addressing external intrusions and attacks.
• Assist in implementing system security to ensure data integrity and protection using routers, firewalls, virus protection, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
• Install, troubleshoot, and maintain company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks.
• Install and maintain software including operating systems, databases, and all applications utilized by the cooperative.
• Support and maintain telecommunications equipment. This includes programming, diagnosing, and upgrading telephone systems, voicemail, and PBX/VOIP systems.
• Assist in recommending and purchasing necessary company computers, laptops, phones, tablets, peripherals, software, and supplies as assigned.
• Provide problem reporting, diagnosis, and resolution of all hardware, software and networking problems supported by the IT Department.
• Provide timely and accurate telephone and in-person technical support by troubleshooting and correcting technical problems encountered by both local and remote end-users.
• Advise and train end users in the use of existing technology while demonstrating a supportive and helpful attitude.
• Consult with end users and propose solutions and alternatives to meet their business needs.
• Install and maintain all licensed and un-licensed microwave radio and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment.
• Assist in writing scripts and programs to ensure effective system automation.
• Assist with special projects as needed or directed by the IT Manager or upper management.
• Keep abreast of all current network, software/hardware applications utilized by the cooperative.
• Maintain a good Cooperative attitude and assist fellow employees in any work which you are capable of and/or may be called on to perform which expedites the business of the Cooperative.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned by the IT Manager or upper management.
• Will act and assist as backup domain/network admin as trained and assigned by IT Manager or when IT Manager is out for training, etc.
EDUCATION: Associate’s degree in computer science or related IT degree is preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of computer-related experience is preferred but not required. Certifications or advanced
certifications are a plus.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
• Working knowledge of various programming languages such as PowerShell, SQL, Python, Bash, and JavaScript.
• Working knowledge of multiple server and desktop operating systems and wide range of software.
• Working knowledge of LAN/WAN standards and protocols, workstation/server troubleshooting, security services, and backup procedures using various hardware and software applications.
• Working knowledge of virtual machines and virtual servers and/or virtual environments.
• Strong IT skills with a good understanding of cyber hacker methodology.
• Ability to identify vulnerabilities and overall security issues.
